There are five campgrounds that will not be open during the majority of your visit. If you are not that familiar with the Park, it can be miserable trying to chance finding an open campsite at the far flung reaches of the park late at night.
I would recommend reservations at one of the Xanterra campgrounds, it will eliminate one anxiety of visiting Yellowstone.
