I knew this was coming, but had no info on the details. There is one detail that is near and dear to my heart, and that is the future of the Visitor Center. Over the years, we have heard that some in leadership wanted to move it out of Mammoth. We were told the plan was to relocate it to somewhere near the North Entrance. Given the proliferation of public/private partnerships just outside park entrances in other places, as well as NPS/cooperating association partnerships, I could envision some sort of expansion of the NPS presence in Yellowstone Association facilities in Gardiner. At the same time, it is hard to imagine a total absence of an interpretive presence in the Mammoth area. (A lot of visitors that enter and exit through one of the other four entrances never make the trip down the hill, below Mammoth.)
