Granite Head and Kent (and anyone else curious),

I don't know if you are aware that besides the dining room up on the "bench", between the post office and the visitor center, there is also the old marina down on the lakeshore. It resides in the space that was once marina-related, including a tackle shop, similar to that found at Bridge Bay. Once the marina closed, (back in the 1970s, I'm thinking) TW Services or Amfac, whoever was running the show, remissioned the marina building into a restaurant. Over the years, it has had numerous incarnations, including as a steakhouse and a pizza/pasta joint. I'm not sure what culinary venue is operating there at present. (Kent, you could perform a great community service by swinging by there on one of your upcoming trips, doing a little on the ground research, and reporting back, if you are so interested.)

Regarding the dining room, historically, they have done a breakfast buffet, which features the same food items found at the Mammoth or Canyon Lodge breakfast buffet, which can also be purchased a la carte at any of the three cafeterias. In my experience, Grant's breakfast buffet always stood out as having the best orange juice AND the best view.

Bon appetit,

Ballpark
