This was an odd trip for us critter-wise. We didn't see a single wolf, and I think only one coyote; in recent years we've also seen loads of badgers (around Slough Creek road and in the sage just north of the Lamar R. bridge) but saw none this year.

We FINALLY saw our very first otter at Trout Lake, we've been trying for years! From the shore where the trail reaches the lake we watched the brown head cruise across the surface almost from the inlet to the south end where those grass-covered logs are. It got out on a log, looked around (some dude was lucky, standing in the shade of the trees at the exact moment the otter got up on the log) and then disappeared back into the water. We never saw where it emerged again. Disappointingly, no photos. Good thing it's a quick walk up there, we go three or four times in a as many days and will keep trying!

However we would have to be dead not to see all the bison and cute little red dogs, especially in Lamar/Little America, as is the usual these days.
