If the resolutions match, then the image of the critter on the sensor isn't any "smaller"--it's just smaller in relation to the size of the sensor. You could crop in a bit and have exactly the same quality image.

Another way to put it is that when you have differing sensor sizes, you indeed have a crop factor, but you do NOT have additional "magnification." For a while some people were trying to make that silly claim. You're just blowing up the image, not getting true magnification.
