We headed on down the road to Jenny Lake and bought our tickets for the shuttle boat ride across and back. I've done the hike from here to Hidden Falls, skipping the boat shortcut--not the most exciting stretch of trail around, mostly just a tromp through the trees. Now I always gladly give over my cash in exchange for cutting off four miles from the whole excursion. Besides, it's a fun little ride.
Here, Mom chills on the ride across the lake. She'd brought herself a book along--her plan was to hike with us as far as Hidden Falls and then hang out there while we went on. She's been up as far as the fork at the head of Cascade Canyon before (where you branch off to head to Lake Solitude if you take the North Fork) and knew that on this trip she didn't want to attempt the climb up the switchbacks to Inspiration Point. That was the part that worried me the most as well, for that matter!
