you still would have missed it, given the time of day, and sunset this time of year.

If it had gone off in daylight, and you were in the park, you probably would have been somewhere in the backcountry.

There's always the possibility you would be on top of Dome or the ridge beyond Observation Peak, following "Lefty", wondering what the big steam plume was in the distance.

After living in Bozeman, Gardiner, and Livingston over a 15 year period, the closest I ever got was the tail end of the noisy steam phase in spring of 2003!
