Big Surprise (at least for me)

Check out the recent press release linked below.

This is unprecedented in my experience, having a major park administrator temporarily vacate their position to take the helm of a supporting non-profit. I've thought about whether this might constitute a potential conflict of interest, but have not come up with anything obvious. I'm sure some will pose the inevitable question about "if the superintendent can simply hand the reins over to a deputy superintendent, and go do something else, do we really need both NPS positions", but there are questions of just how long this temporary situation is anticipated to last. We are entering a slow time of year for most park operations.

When I was in the park in August, I was told by a Yellowstone Association employee that rumors of a merger between YA and the Foundation were running rampant. I've been expecting some sort of announcement in that area, but haven't seen anything. Is it possible that the Foundation's CEO leaving was the result of losing a political struggle about the rumored merger?

Does anyone have any inside info they are willing to share in such a public forum?
