Those of you who have driven between Bozeman and Livingston have seen the "SEE GRIZZLY BEARS! EXIT HERE" signs about 12 or 13 miles east along I-90 from Bozeman. Tacky signs, but Montana Grizzly Encounter is in fact an A-1 grizzly sanctuary. They have just five well-loved, well-cared for bears that cannot be released to the wild. Most were born in captivity and some spent years in miserable conditions before being rescued and brought to MGE. It's one of my favorite places to visit when I can't get all the way to the park. Spent a few hours there a couple of weeks ago while Maggi and Jake were rotated out of their behind-the-scenes "dens" to the outdoors. Just like West Yellowstone's Grizzly & Wolf Encounter, between rotations treats are scattered around the space, hidden under rocks and in the crotches of trees for the bears to search for when they come out as part of their enrichment.

Although they don't look like brother and sister, Maggi and Jake are siblings, born at a wildlife park that couldn't maintain them, and the greatest of friends in spite of being adults, so they get to come out and play together.

They're a MOST charming pair of bears!
