The Fairy Falls trail is in the Firehole Bear Management Area and is closed until the Friday before Memorial Day. And the Firehole BMA includes Firehole Lake Drive. Ballpark mentioned this in his post.
Can you imagine rounding one of the curves in the trail with the new growth limiting vision and encountering a grizzly? Better have the bear spray in hand.
