Unlike in Yellowstone, Teton elk are pretty skittish. For one thing, this herd at the turnoff to Jackson Lake dam had over-nighted in major grizzly country. For another, the border with the Bridger-Teton National Forest isn't far from here, and they know what evil people are capable of. A herd of 30 or 40 elk and calves skedaddled across the road into the privacy of the tall willows.
