I particularly love this painting (Museum sign info below) because I have been to Merry Point and have seen that shack, and polar bears in the area, though none so conveniently positioned between me and the shack. Churchill, Manitoba

From the Museum sign:

The Old Homestead at Merry s Point, 2013
Oil on linen
Greg Beecham (United States, b. 1954)

This painting juxtaposes the natural world with the man-made in a way that does not place people in the dominant position. The dilapidated, abandoned homestead shows humanity s attempt to settled ina habitat for which it is not ideally suited. The painting promotes the life of the polar bear, a creature that is perfectly at home in this harsh environment.
