Hi Dave - I have two bodies, one is an old Nikon D90 that I keep my 18-70 lens on, and the other is a newer Nikon D7000 that when I'm in the park I keep my 150-600 Tamron lens on. It served me very well when it came to wildlife.

Since I was in the park I've invested in a new "walk-around" lens, a very versatile and reasonably-priced Tamron 16-300. It's lightweight, compact, and seems to really do the job. I used it for a week in Chicago and was pleased with the results, so I'll certainly use it for hiking (that 150-600 is NOT, repeat, NOT a walk-around, ha!) This photo from the beautiful Lincoln Park Zoo was a combination of the D7000 and the 16-300. The lioness was contemplating whether my camera and I would be sufficiently delicious to be worth breaking through the cables for, as you can tell.
