The cool, wet weather that is moving in today should herald the last gasp of the fires that have been burning in Yellowstone. Any trace of fire that can survive the next 4 or 5 days of precipitation should be "honored" as the toughest of its kind. We haven't been seeing much smoke on the web cams lately, although there is a wee bit visible today on the Buffalo Fire.

I'm glad West Yellowstone was not threatened further, or worst, torched, by the Maple Fire. I'm happy that the Buffalo Fire appears to have been kept out of Slough Creek Campground. My fears of the Central Fire burning a particularly special part of the extreme southwest corner of Hayden Valley do not seem to have been realized. The Fawn Pass Fire did not appear to make it over the divide to where it could raise havoc on the east side, driven by the prevailing winds. This is a lot to be greatful for come Thanksgiving, including the efforts of the wildland firefighters who kept the fires out of West Yellowstone and the Slough Creek Campground.
