British Columbia, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, etc., all have active, smoky fires. I don't know much about what's going on with the June fire, but it's east and south of the Northern Range so most of the smoke is blowing away from rather than into the park. It's been very hot out here, so I imagine most of the wildlife has retreated to higher or otherwise cooler ground. Things should be cooled down within a few weeks, but what we really need out here is a few drenching rains to scrub the air!

I mentioned that I saw a few elk in Mammoth; there were probably a hundred more out in a stubble field in the Tom Miner Basin area, so they're around, just not very visible in the Northern Range.

People have been watching wolves in Hayden where there's more viewable activity than in Little America since the Slough Creek pack pups became old enough to follow the pack far from the den.
