Dan,
There is a lot of truth in what you say. I have found myself in several "waiting room" circumstances recently, one a barber shop, the other a doctor's office; and in both environments, virtually everyone had their smart phones in their hands, doing whatever they preferred. Ironically, in both situations, there were magazine racks nearby, and nobody was making use of the publications stored on them. Also, and this may be more sociologically significant, people were buried in their smart phones, rather than chatting with other folks. (Of course, even pre-smart phone, people could isolate themselves by reading books or magazines.) Even my wife has a tendency to spend a lot more time fooling around with her smart phone than I do. I know she does a lot of texting to family and friends, and she is active on Facebook.
Thanks for taking the time.
Ballpark
