Thanks to those who were so kind as to offer me help with my iPhone capacity mystery. FYI, it was eventually discovered that it was a software glitch. I went to the genius bar at the Apple Store and it was corrected & reset - for free. I now have 5.8 of my 6.4GB available. YAY!
As for the horrible wolf news that Kent posted, it is sadly true that we lost dear, sweet 754M of the Lamar Canyon Pack, the beloved uncle of three successive litters, the stalwart buddy of his brother, 755, and the sweetheart of 06. He will be greatly missed.
Hunting is not my thing, but I am not opposed to having a hunt in areas immediately outside the Park, but I feel it has so far been conducted un-wisely by both participants and regulators.
In my opinion, hunters should be encouraged to refrain from shooting collared wolves, due to the loss to science and waste of taxpayer and Park dollars. At the very least, the rules should be amended to require the immediate return of the collar to the Park Service and to allow a scientific post mortem on the body. In addition, very low quotas should be in place in all hunting areas immediately adjacent to the Park, especially in known wolf travel corridors, and there should be strict rules prohibiting baiting or calling-in these animals. Exceptions would remain for any wolf that poses an immediate threat to human life, or that preys on or immediately threaten to prey on stock or pets. Wolf numbers are NOT high. I believe that current hunting laws will limit their numbers far too drastically and will soon result in a genetic island, rather than providing a controlled but viable population.
For those of you wishing to express your opinion to the various men in charge of the hunt, here is a list of links and/or e-mails to use:
