I have not heard that, but like DaveP would seriously doubt the veracity of the claim. The level of outrage if such a practice were brought to light would be off the charts.

I'd also doubt it due to the lack of excessive bird activity around the canyon. One carcass is enough to attract ravens, crows, eagles, etc. up the wazoo. Multiple ones? You'd be able to notice something was amiss just from the presence of winged things I would think.
