I thought the more expensive Western cabins were worth it - nice space, nice area, very good lighting (which is, or has been, an issue in a lot of the cabins I've stayed in at Yellowstone), newly renovated, quiet, etc. Easy walk to the village for breakfast, etc. Saw a great little pine marten along the way one day last summer :-)
I haven't stayed in a Frontier cabin for many years, and I think they've been renovated too (somebody correct me if that's not the case) but they were a lot more primitive and the walls were a lot thinner. And, they were a lot less expensive.
