Very interesting article, and I'm so glad someone is paying attention at high levels. The article noted that up to 5 wolverines can be trapped per year in Montana (legally, anyway) but it didn't say what the harvest actually has been. In any case, they're notoriously hard to study, but if the take really is 5 in a year, then I as reclusive as they are, it's a guarantee the trappers know a lot about where and how to find them. As this sign, taken at the Churchill (Canada) Parks Canada Visitor Center this November suggests, one way to get wolverine (or wolverine parts, at least) is via hunters/trappers.

When we were in Churchill someone reported seeing one by the road (oh, so close in time and space to where we were at the time!!). Churchill is about sea level, with no mountains anywhere close, but there's plenty of cold weather and snow banks and thousands of square miles of remote territory where they can rear their pups and live their lives in peace.
