In this last shot before the owl departed you can see the very delicate special sensory feathers around its face that help it hunt so accurately.
At this point it at last took its vole and flew high and deep into the trees behind the open area where this wonderful scene unfolded. I don't think it's possible to know whether this is a male or female owl, or whether it was heading to a nest with the nutrition that took it about a half an hour to acquire.
I am always stunned and awed when Nature allows us to partake in its secrets and won't soon forget this experience.
