The old Mammoth Lodge was located approximately in the area where the Mammoth horse corrals are now--a different area from the Mammoth Hotel complex and cabins. Mammoth Lodge had its own dining hall, cabins, and even a swimming pool. According to "Yellowstone Album" by Lee Whittlesey and staff, the area was abandoned in 1940 and torn down in 1949. Here's a recent view of the general area. Quite a change!
