I can't really add much to what Granite Head wrote. Definitely book as soon as you know your dates. Check on the packages for staying at Snowlodge. You can take a tour to the Canyon on either a snowmobile or snowcoach. I've done both and prefer the snowcoach. When you book your room, book your activities as well, especially the Canyon Day Tour (which is offered from Mammoth and Old Faithful) as it can fill up fast. In the winter, dinner reservations are required at Snowlodge.
