Thanks for posting these, GH. I stayed at Lake Hotel in 1984, before the first major renovations of the 80s (at least in the section I was in on one of the upper floors near the top of the winding stairs). At that time some of the rooms were quite affordable, comparable to cabin rates. My room was rather narrow and long, fairly plain, a little drafty and dim, with tall ceilings, a transom, and an ancient bed, a little lumpy with springs that squeaked at every turn. I enjoyed the experience in some ways partly because of its unvarnished and far-from-luxurious state at the time.

The YouTube video at the link below was added last winter showing the renovation in progress. It's pretty amazing how quickly it progressed to the finished state shown in your photos.
