Fireplace - one of two. This one is right by the stairs into the cafeteria.
Those of you who were on this side of the park on June 17 may recall that it was extremely windy that day; when we arrived back at the Lodge after a day of watching (distant!) bears, we discovered that the power was out. Back-tracking to Fishing Bridge or Canyon, or heading down to Grant to get some dinner, we were told, would be a waste of gas because they were ALL blacked out. Fortunately a) our electric key-card was working so we could at least get into the cabin, and b) it was still very light out at 7:00, so we didn't have to grope to get around.
Although the registration desk was out of commission (no computers!) the cafeteria was open! The lights were on generators, as were the fridges and soda dispensers. Although there was no cooking happening, the frantically working servers produced ample salads and sandwiches, so we were able to have a reasonable dinner, even though the poor cashiers had to hand-write out credit card receipts for anybody without cash (like us). I give the stalwart staff lots of credit for making it all work.

Later that night, power was back on and everything returned to normal. Ah, Yellowstone :-)
