Yellowstone National Park Celebrates Earth Day 2014

Yellowstone National Park, the Yellowstone Environmental Coordinating Committee (YECC) and community partners in and around Gardiner, Montana, will celebrate the 44th anniversary of Earth Day starting April 19, with community cleanups, waste collection and recycling events, demonstrations, games, information on local and national environmental initiatives and much more.

* 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.: Trash Amnesty Day at the Gardiner Green Boxes. (Call 406-223-2135 for details.)

* 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.: Drop donations at Community Closet truck located at the Yellowstone Association.

* 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.: Community Clean-up Opportunities and E-waste collection at Arch Park.

* 12:00 p.m.: FREE community BBQ at Arch Park.

* 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.: Eco-themed educational opportunities at the Yellowstone Association, including recycled crafts, puppet show, story time and face painting, Master Gardener information and demonstration, compost giveaway (bring your own bucket or bag!) and a bear-proof trash can giveaway.

Saturday, April 26

* 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.: In collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Medcor and the National Park Service will host a National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day in the Yellowstone Association Building.

All Earth Day activities are free of charge and take place in several of Yellowstone's gateway communities over the course of the weekends surrounding Earth Day. For questions or volunteer opportunities, please call Dylan Hoffman at: 307-344-5204.

The YECC is a collaborative environmental committee consisting of National Park Service, Xanterra Parks & Resorts, Delaware North Companies, Medcor, Yellowstone Park Service Stations, Yellowstone Association, and Yellowstone Park Foundation representatives that focuses on sustainability issues in and around Yellowstone National Park.
