I haven't seen the Disney movie Bears so I can't comment with certainty. However, in the trailer (which is very appealing) the canines look like wolves to me. Hard to judge from a trailer, to be sure!
I'm glad you mentioned the movie, though, I didn't realize it was coming out this weekend. It may be a while before I can see the whole thing, but I'll certainly keep it in mind.
If you and your mom are interested in how nature films are made, I can strongly recommend Shooting the Wild, by Chris Palmer. He reveals how film makers manipulate wild situations and discusses the ethics of non-disclosure when, for example, close-ups of captive animals are interspersed with true photography in the wild. It's very interesting reading. You can get it on Amazon.com if your local library or bookstore doesn't have it.
