Fire Ops is monitoring two new fires in the park this morning, both probably the result of lightning from the storm that moved through the northern half of the park yesterday (knocking out power to everything south of Mammoth for about 2.5 hours).

The Range Fire is located approx. 2 miles north of Observation Peak (northwest of Canyon Village), and the Dewdrop Fire is located on the Mirror Plateau east of Mt. Washburn. At this point neither is up on Inciweb. The original Mt. Washburn webcam is pointed to the Dewdrop Fire right now.

There's a fire crew enroute to the Range Fire, which has laid down for the time being. According to the helo sent to take a look at the Dewdrop Fire, it's just a single tree, with significant potential for spread.

More to come as it develops.
