I think the reason I avoided it for years is that at mid-day when it's sunny, it's very hot, and hard to find any shade. Last time we visited, a couple of visits ago, weather was similar to what you had (Oh, Yallerstone in June!) and we in fact enjoyed it far more because I wasn't baking to death. It's a major fave of the geyser gazers and I can see why now.
