There has been an ongoing effort to find a young Russian man missing for about a
week. The employee of Dornans in Moose was last seen Sunday. While there had
been a manhunt for 3 other males that LE thought might be tied to the young man, it
turned out not to be so.
Yesterday afternoon word came on the radio from one of the many search teams that
a body had been found near Delta Lake east of Lupine Meadows trailhead.
I monitored the efforts by scanner and observation all day. I have to say that I was
very impressed of the efforts of the NPS and Teton Search and Rescue. They had
multiple teams all over this mountain. I've never seen such an efficient and well
organized search effort.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of this young man. Please know as
witnessed by me, there was an honorable effort to find your friend and family
member.
Of particular note was the extremely brave efforts of the helicopter pilot who risked
his own life flying into extreme cloud cover and uncertain weather conditions through
a very small window of opportunity to effect the recovery of the young mans body. I
am humbled by this brave man and his selfless effort.
