Saw it on Y-net. Yet another reason not to hike in the woods by yourself.

In my early work for the agency (similar country), there was only one year when I actually had a partner for back country work. Otherwise, we were expected to do the work armed only with a pop-can half full of gravel on a string to make noise with. Guns were not permitted except to law-enforcement officers, and I wouldn't have known what to do with one anyway. The year I had a partner, we spotted some gray and black pups on an island in a swampy area...since there were officially no wolves in southwest Montana at the time, they must have been coyote pups, but I have seldom seen a really black coyote. My partner and I camped sometimes along trails while surveying. A couple weeks after we did a project, we heard about a hunter who spent the night treed at one of our campsites, but he had been packing out a moose trophy.
