I'm a bit concerned about your plan to "...drive to Yellowstone right away."
If you are getting into SLC just before midnight, do you already have your accommodations booked for that night in town or were you planning to drive at night?
Where will you be staying in the park? Seasoned Yellowstone visitors do not recommend driving in the park at night because of the number of animals on the road that can't be seen until it is too late to avoid an accident.
You should post your plan, with more details, on the Yellowstone forum on Trip Advisor and look at the opening/closing dates on the National Park Service web site to get more information about what will be open that weekend.
The road from Tower to Canyon over Dunraven Pass is scheduled to open on May 22 (weather permitting), the Friday of the Memorial Day holiday.
