on the pages, probably because most folks are out enjoying the Park, vs. reading about it as a help to get through the winter months. Not sure, just my guess. I started out following The Total Yellowstone Page in 1995 (can't hardly believe it's been 20 years ago). Anyway, the chat page seems to go through ebbs and flows. I agree with Beej though, if someone posts a controversial rant, watch out, the floodgates open. I've discovered that with Facebook as well, if I post something peaceful, and non-controversial I may get a like or two, but if it's controversial in nature, my page explodes with comments. I prefer peaceful and on or two comments versus controversial, though some of the responses can be entertaining.
