rickyberetired,

I have not been to this campsite, and obviously, have not fished around there. I have been to most campsites along the Yellowstone, downstream from there. I've even fished in the area where Hellroaring Creek meets the Yellowstone. The fishing was good down in there, and I strongly suspect it is as good, and possibly, better at 2Y1, based on things I have heard from park employees.

When I worked in the park, one member of the NPS leadership team told me of an annual tradition where a small group of older NPS guys would go in there for 3 or 4 days. I know the fishing had to be good, or they would not have put in all that effort to simply get to a piece of the river. I also know that they hauled quite a bit of beer along.

One of the reasons I have not visited 2Y1 is that given the solar exposure and relatively low elevation (compared to other places further south), you can get "baked" out there if your outing coincides with a hot spell.

We have a number of hard core fishermen that frequent this page. Hopefully, a few of them can provide more specific information on access and overall fishery quality in the area.

I know that there are griz in that area, because some of my hiking pals encountered one out there on a day hike years back. Hopefully, you are not planning a solo outing.
