I truly feel like I have struck gold landing on this site with all of your amazing insights (and your willingness to share what you know).
In many ways, I'm more overwhelmed than before, but I also know that no matter how we spend our time, we will have an amazing experience. My husband and I are lucky that our girls have come to enjoy this kind of travel as we do... and we have become good at adapting our plans as challenges or opportunities present themselves.
In fact, we had a family plan to finish all of NH's 48 4000-footers (4000 feet is big for New England) before my older daughter goes to college. We then realized that would mean every vacation would be in NH...and this trip is one of those opportunities that made us shift plans!
