*Small plastic bags to carry out your used TP, banana peels, Kind Bar wrappers, etc.

*Camera with the best zoom you can muster (and charger), and definitely binoculars.

*Sun screen: the sun is very strong at park altitudes, and hand cream, the air is dry out here!

*Band aids if you're at all inclined to blisters.

*Common sense, which you certainly seem to have. Beyond belief but last weekend somebody has already videoed a woman walking up to a resting bison and touching it. She got away with it but only by the grace of the Yellowstone Gods.

*No question you need bear spray, both black and grizzly bears are out and about. You can pick it up at Bob Ward's (next to Target on 19th just south of the I-90) or at the Yellowstone Association store next to the Arch in Gardiner and at visitor centers in Yellowstone. Look around YouTube for demos before you leave and read the package instructions carefully. You won't be able to take it back on the plane, when I was still coming in by plane I gave the always unused (fortunately!) canisters to camp ground hosts or stopped by the Forest Service office in Gardiner, they can use it too.

*Verizon signal is spotty but better than other providers - a few places you can get a good signal include Mammoth, the turn-off from northeast entrance road to Slough Creek right where the vault toilet is (odd, but true), the top of Lake Butte overlook a few miles around the lake shore from Fishing Bridge (not as odd because of the wide open space across which signals can travel), and most of the area around Old Faithful. And randomly, other places :-)

*I've never carried a knife but if you check your luggage then I'd say it would be a reasonable tool have with you.

Bring on the questions!!
