Even though we now live within a 1-1/2 hour drive from Yellowstone, we hope to maintain the decades-old tradition of staying in the parks - both Yellowstone and the Tetons - for 8-10 days each June. June is still a favorite time, especially for baby-animal viewing. It's still advantageous in terms of beating the crowds (up what, 25% from the good old days, and particularly prone to dangerous and destructive behavior it seems), and usually the weather is felicitous.

It IS harder, even in mid-June when planned 13 months in advance (May 1 is the earliest reservations can be made for the following year) to get more than about 2-3 contiguous nights anywhere in Yellowstone. GTNP isn't that bad yet. In any case, we started our June 2015 journey in a nice Old Faithful Snow Lodge cabin and did a little geyser-gazing that we have tended to neglect in years past. How long as it been since we'd been to the boardwalk side of Grand Prismatic? I was especially curious to see if we could locate the footprints of those High on Life morons who video'd themselves walking on the fragile crust at Grand P. Fortunately (for my mental well-being), all we saw were bison tracks!
