Beej,

Did you call your grandmother "Burger King", or more appropriately, "Burger Queen"?

There are a few folks in the Gardiner/Jardine area that would love to hear your story, and I'll bet if you were back in your old stompin' grounds, there would be even more receptive ears.

I hate to say it, but you even have a county commissioner or two that would embrace that story as fact, and then try to establish rationale for those Russky canids having donated DNA to Yellowstone's wolves.

It's a shame that your grandmother's story didn't make the cut when they were putting together that traveling exhibit on wolves that made a summer-long stop at Grant Village back in the mid to late 1980s. It had some story boarding that presented the myths about wolves, and the evolution of that scare propaganda. I remember it had some good coverage of some ethnocentric western Europe tales, but I don't remember the one you speak of. What a hoot!

At least I managed to do a screen capture of this latest iteration of the Mt. Washburn mini-snowman. In a "normal" year, the lookout would probably be gone by Labor Day, but the fires this year have given him/her additional tenure.
