This is one of those success stories of people using pepper spray to avoid harm to both themselves and a grizzly. Oftentimes, you don't hear or read about these incidents until they get published in some book or magazine article down the road.

Near as I can tell, these folks did everything correctly, including reporting the incident to rangers afterwards.
