In Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming, you have two large anti-wolf lobbies. One is a fair-size number of hunters, who see wolf predation as a zero sum game, which reduces game numbers, and decreases their chance of success. The other special interest group is the stockgrowers, who see their cattle and sheep at risk. The recently developed technology reported in the linked article could offer a new tool for stockgrowers to employ, as they combat wolf predation. In spite of the fact that Defenders of Wildlife created a fund to compensate stockgrowers for documented wolf kills on their livestock, there continues to be a lot of negative energy regarding wolves in the ag community. In Park County, Montana, for example, there are a couple brothers famous for not following through with measures to safeguard their sheep, even though Defenders was willing to fund them. (Even the technology in the linked article would be of little use to those boneheads!)
