Hi Pat,

I can understand that you might not have an appetite for expanding what you started, and that is perfectly OK. At the same time, I don't think you are "not smart enough to do more". I've seen you accomplish a lot, and you have "gone where no Loon has gone before".

Once I'm back in Yellowstone country, I will poke around, and see if anyone else is working on an app or DVD that could be an aid to folks out driving, hiking, or walking around Greater Yellowstone, which, of course, includes the Tetons and the nearby national forests. I could easily see demand for something similar on birds and possibly, mammals. I have the 8.5 x 11 glossy guide to common flowers of the area that has been sold in the visitor centers for years, but it is not comprehensive, and lacks much of the info that an app or DVD could contain. There are also a few wildflower books out there, but having to tote around a book in the backcountry means carrying more weight, taking up more space in your pack, having to dig it out (meaning many times when you would like to use it, you won't), and possibly subjecting it to the vagaries of whatever the weather is doing when you do pull it out.

Next time I run into Katie Duffy, I will definitely run this idea by her for something on birds. She has the knowledge of birds and lots of energy.

I'm out of date on botany and mammal subject matter experts, but I'm sure Yellowstone Forever could identify several. In fact, I would not be surprised if they have already looked at promoting the production of these types of products, since it would fit nicely into their visitor education and fostering of stewardship mission. I would love to hear that someone is already hard at work putting something together.

Do you have plans for future visits to Yellowstone?
