The worries you discussed in your post really hit home. Ever since the very first time I visited Yellowstone as a kid, the fear of accidentally falling or being pushed off one of the boardwalks has been a constant companion.

Thankfully, it has not been enough to keep me from visiting the park, but it does give me a healthy respect for interacting with that environment.

I think your worries are absolutely sound - I too am surprised that no one has fallen off a boardwalk yet (at least as far as I'm aware). As you touched upon, given the proclivity of certain cultures to be a bit more "pushy", I'm still trying to figure out how people aren't falling off of pathways left and right!

The recent images people have posted of the Grand Prismatic boardwalks (taken from the new overlook) has me breaking out in a cold sweat - it's literally wall to wall people down there!

I'm headed out to the park in a few weeks, and I hope like hell the crowds die down a little by then. I'm planning on doing everything possible to try and get my party to get up at the crack of dawn each day to beat the worst crowds.
