...you can relax, take your time exploring, return for second looks to the places that interest you the most. As a general rule, though, avoid the crowds by getting to the most popular spots (Old Faithful, Canyon) early in the day, especially if you're in an RV and need a large parking spot.

I also recommend taking along a copy of Janet Chapple's Yellowstone Treasures for a stop-by-stop guide to features along the roads. Take a look through it ahead of time for a way to get a handle on your priorities.

A little hiking that will get you away from the crowds, but know your capabilities (e.g., the park is high elevation so don't overdo it if you're not used to mountains) and discuss choices with and get maps from a ranger at any of the visitor centers. Also be sure you understand and practice bear safety. Bring water (refillable bottles please), hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, windbreaker and good shoes. Binoculars are helpful for wildlife watching.
