Wow. Great description Frank. Definitely the best I've seen in writing.
The trail and guide book descriptions are generally easy to follow until you get to the specimens Frank describes as "a huge horizontal log and stump that are embedded in the hillside". I think many folks reach this spot and mistakenly think they've reached "the trees". They haven't and you should keep trudging up the ridge. Note carefully Frank's instruction that after this spot "Eventually, you encounter several trails that go off to the right toward a small forested area". That, in my opinion, is the key instruction.
