This morning's Bozeman Daily Chronicle has an article updating Xanterra's lodging plans for the summer season. Many of us expected this, given their decision to close the Old Faithful Inn, Roosevelt Lodge, and Grant Village. We can now add the Lake Hotel and Mammoth Hotel to the closures. They still plan to have cabins available at Canyon, Lake, Mammoth, and Old Faithful. The template seems to be that only lodging that features a separate entry that does not complicate social distancing and a bathroom within the unit are being opened. They are reserving the right to potentially make adjustments later in the season, if conditions warrant. I'm just not sure how they would acquire the staff to support any late openings in August or September.
Given that you have your backcountry dates and sites reserved, I would suggest that you contact Xanterra ASAP (using the website first, since it often works well), and if they are booked up during your dates, start checking the gateway community of choice before they fill up.
