Great gray owl, one of quite a few people found to photograph in Yellowstone this year. I think there must have been an irruption of some kind, I've seen so many photos of different GGOs taken in different parts of the park recently. GGOs are "crepuscular hunters" meaning they're active not only at night, like most owls, but also in the morning and in the evening. This one plunged into the grassy area below its perch several times but unfortunately came up empty each time. Maybe the small gathering of photographers were distracting it. I hope not - everyone was quiet and respectful of the owl's space, but we can't really know if we were the problem, or it was just the statistical reality of an owl's hunting life.
