We rode the mv Ptarmigan last June with family that was visiting from Montana. The skipper does his best to keep the boat in relatively close, but safe, proximity to the snout of the glacier, in hopes of passengers getting to see and hear iceberg calving. We got to see some minor activity, but none of the melodramatic variety. Timing is everything. I was on the lakeshore for about 45 minutes. I heard a few minor calving events, but never got a visual.
