In principle I do not object to hunting for food or even for pleasure, including trophy hunting, under the conditions that the hunt is sportsman-like, and the targeted population is able to tolerate the losses. That these wolves are habituated begs the question of whether hunting them can ever be truly sportsmanlike, that is, under conditions in which there are approximately equal chances for the hunter, who improves his chances of getting his trophy through his skills while remaining obedient to the rules of the game, and equal chances for the animal, through its instincts and skills, to escape. The animals' side of the equation isn't equal to the hunters' when it comes to Yellowstone wolves.

Perhaps as more of them are killed at the boundaries of the park, they will learn those boundaries - they are very intelligent dogs, after all - and avoid crossing them. If that happens fast enough, it will serve to equalize the formula.
