I have found someone to do a healing ceremony on my computer but until I can get it to him, we've hooked an old computer up to the modem and are functioning medium-well - you know, like a steak, medium-well. Done. ;-)

So, to move on with reporting our June trip. On Day 2 the threat of precipitation was back, and on top of all that, it was kinda' frosty at Canyon where we were staying, so we had the brilliant idea of checking out the other side of the park, knowing the weather could be radically different across the Divide. The first stop was the front basin at Norris. I always tend to shun it because I'm sensitive to the sun glaring back at me from all that white stuff, and so often it's a shadelessly hot and miserable place for me to spend much time (though the back basin there is a different story). Since it was still very cool (Kevin would say it was *cols*) and overcast, it did make for a great day to wander around Porcelain Basin for the first time in years.

First thing I took note of was the Norris Trailside Museum. In the past I've ignored it, considering it to be one of the less attractive of the historic structures in the park, and certainly to contain one of the least interesting exhibits. The exhibits are still boring - very elementary treatment of subject matter that is far better presented at the newer VCs at Canyon and Old Faithful (I won't be upset if you disagree with me).

But, as you will see in subsequent TR installments, I've taken an interest in "parkitecture" and the museum is certainly a great example. It, along with other park landmarks like the Fishing Bridge Trailside Museum (aka Fishing Bridge VC)was designed by Herbert Maier, and opened in 1930 - so it's sure stood the test of time in the sense that on that shifting geothermically active area it's still standing sturdy and strong.
