Beej,

I have only been to Guernsey State Park once, and that was 32 years ago, so my memory is a bit foggy.

There is ample evidence of CCC work in both RMNP and Yellowstone. The telltale sign is typically labor-intensive stone work. You see it in the rock walls that line roadways (all along the Grand Loop), or the underside of smaller arch-type bridges, like the ones in Hayden Valley.

The key difference between the CCC and Mission 66 is that the CCC and WPA were both programs that spanned cabinet-level departments of the federal government, while Mission 66 was unique to the National Park Service.

A former father-in-law of mine was part of the CCC crew that built the Hanging Lake trail in Glenwood Canyon in Colorado. He had some amazing war stories of that project. A few years later, he was flying B-17s over Germany. Three decades later, he, and the rest of the family came to visit us in Germany. I have vivid memories of his commenting on how nice it was to see the land he had dropped bombs on at ground level, and in peacetime.

The stonework remnants of CCC work remain visible in numerous national parks and other public lands. That hallmark stone work shows up in many of the high altitude roads. I suspect that the CCC may have played a role in the construction of the Beartooth Highway.
